On August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse will take place throughout the province of Leon.

The map above (made by Xavier Jubier) indicates from which areas of the Iberian Peninsula you can observe the total eclipse (shaded area between the red lines). West of the yellow line, all the phases of the event can be seen; between yellow and green lines, the end of the partial eclipse cannot be seen because the sun will have set earlier.

A large crowd of visitors from all over the world is expected, so it is highly recommended to book your accommodation in advance.

The Regional Government maintains a tourism database with registered establishments. You can filter by type (hotels, hostels, campsites…) and see their position on a map.

The Spain’s Astronomy Associations Federation has set up a website that will display relevant information about the eclipse.

Sungazing must be done responsibly or you could suffer irreparable eye burns. Therefore, always use specific approved eclipse glasses and special filters for your telescope or binoculars.
